Four full-time courses

The courses cover levels 1 through 8 of the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels.  Your lessons will be based on an integrated skills approach which uses a variety of activities, including: oral communication, reading, writing, grammar, and phonetics. Topics will focus on life in Quebec, and the particularities of the French language in Quebec. Throughout the session, your teacher will evaluate your progress, enabling you to make appropriate corrections, and modify your learning methods, if necessary.

CHILDCARE COSTS

People who need to look after their child to be able to attend classes may, under certain conditions, receive a lump sum of $9 per day, per child (documents required for preschool and elementary-age children).

 

How to register?

To participate in these courses full-time, you must register with the Government of Québec, meet the admission conditions required by the Government of Québec, complete the admission form, and provide the requested documents.

 

Course 1*

In this course, you will explore the basics of the French language, both orally and in writing, to meet your immediate needs. This course will also allow you to familiarize yourself with the habits, customs, codes, and rules of daily life in Quebec.

Communication objectives and activities will help you develop your ability to:

  • Interact orally in simple, everyday situations
  • Understand short, simple sentences, messages, and texts
  • Produce short messages and complete simple documents

*This course corresponds to levels 1 to 3 of the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels

Course 2*

In this course, you will consolidate your learning of the basics of the French language, both orally and in writing, to meet most of your everyday needs. This course will give you the opportunity to explore the geographic and historical characteristics of Quebec. You will also learn about the resources and institutions of Quebec society related to the exercise of your rights and responsibilities as a member of this society.

Communication objectives and activities will help you develop your ability to:

  • Communicate orally in predictable everyday situations
  • Understand simple texts
  • Write short prose or structured texts to express ideas or facts

*This course corresponds to levels 3 to 5 of the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels.

Course 3*

In this course, you will improve your understanding of notions of the French language and strengthen your ability to understand and produce oral and written statements to meet specific needs of daily life. This course will also give you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with significant events in the history of Quebec and its recent news, to observe the characteristics of the economic life of Quebec, and to distinguish between the various forms of participation in collective life.

Communication objectives and activities will help you develop your ability to:

  • Converse in a variety of situations
  • Understand various types of texts of medium complexity
  • Write short structured texts and simple formal texts

*This course corresponds to levels 5 and 6 of the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels.

Course 4*

In this course, you will deepen your understanding of the concepts of the French language, both orally and in writing, and you will develop your ability to participate in conversations on topics of general interest. This course will also give you the opportunity to discover different elements of Quebec's cultural life, and to learn about the realities of the job market.

Communication objectives and activities will help you develop your ability to:

  • Converse in partially predictable situations
  • Understand texts of general interest with implicit ideas
  • Write formal texts that meet basic academic and professional requirements

*This course corresponds to levels 6 to 8 of the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels.
